Tremblant – Summer Activites

20 May

A triple whammy will headline a busy summer at Mont Tremblant.

Starting with the Half Ironman on June 24 and them full Ironman on August 19th.

Then the 18th annual Tremblant International Blues Festival, a 10-day music happening to be held at the slopeside village July 9-18.

“What is hard for us now in Louisiana is to have a normal life,” Richard said at the announcement of his appearance at Tremblant. He was referring to the impact of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. “To make music, to reach people and celebrate, all this gives me pleasure at this difficult time.”

About 250 musicians -including Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Tab Benoit, Tommy Castro, Matt Schofield and Quebec stars Carl Tremblay, Jim Zeller, Jimmy James, Paul Deslauriers and Dawn Tyler Watson -will perform roughly 12 shows daily on outdoor stages and at about eight bars and bistros. And it’s almost all free, except for a cover charge at a few bars for indoor shows. “Almost everywhere you go, there will be someone playin’ and singin’ the blues,” said Catherine Lacasse, Tremblant’s public-relations supervisor.

If you want the best priced accommodation take advantage of our special at Tremblant Resort Lodging a 20-per-cent discount if you reserve 10 days in advance and stay two nights. .
A treat for guests at most of Tremblant’s slopeside lodging is a the scenic ride up the mountain on the gondola and entrance to daily concerts from 5 a 7 at the summit. Here, the Blues Fest blends music with views of Tremblant’s forests, lakes and mountains.

Over at Le Circuit Mont Tremblant, the rubber will hit the road again, but, in September, the roar of engines will be replaced by the sound of bicycle tires.
Seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong will lead not one, but two, fund-raisers, one a new event.

Armstrong will be the guest of honor and lead rider at the third annual Cedars Tour de Lance, a 100-kilometre benefit ride on Sept. 11 for the Cedars Cancer Institute along a 100-kilometre route through villages like Mont Tremblant, La Conception, Brebeuf, Arundel and St. Jovite.

Armstrong also will inaugurate the first edition of Tremblant’s 24h of Cycling by riding the opening lap and leading about 1,000 cyclists at Le Circuit, the motor-racing track. The new event, Sept. 10-12, uses the formula of Tremblant’s 24h of skiing, during which teams take to the slopes in all-day, all-night relays.

“It’s not a race, it’s a cause,” said O’Donnell .”This will be a great family event, with nonstop entertainment for visitors and the opportunity for children and grown-ups to raise funds for worthy causes.”

The goal is to raise a total of $500,000 for the 24h of Tremblant Foundation, which supports children’s causes, and the Cedars Cancer Institute.

Car racing still dominates the summer schedule at Le Circuit.Former Indianapolis 500 winner Bobby Rahal is organizing the Legends of Motorsport, July 9-11, which will showcase vintage cars from Grand Prix and Can-Am events and cool wheels from the Fabulous ’50s. Ferrari will be the theme car of the Legends event and Gilles Villeneuve’s Formula I Ferrari will be on the track.

Book your Ironman Mont Tremblant Accommodation with Tremblant Resort Lodging

It comes as no surprise that entries are full for for the first-time event in Mont-Tremblant next August – set in one of North America’s top ski resorts, the event has something for everyone and promises to be an incredible destination event for Ironman athletes and their families.

Tremblant Resort Lodging

Mont-Tremblant, the town, is no stranger to world class events – everything from running to cycling to music to, of course, skiing. With 1,700 hotel rooms at the resort, Ironman Mont-Tremblant serves as an outstanding spot for athletes and their families. The various accommodations (everything from 2 star to 5 star) in Mont-Tremblant provide easy access to the race – on race morning you’ll have a 500 yard walk to the transition area, according to race organizers. That’s not only a help to athletes on race day – their families will enjoy the opportunity to take a break during the day, too. The resort is easy to get to – it’s a short drive from Montreal and there’s even an international airport in Mont-Tremblant.

While athletes are going through their final race-week preparations, their families will find lots to do in Mont-Tremblant, too. The resort has planned on opening the “Kids Club” during the week of the race for children between 1 and 6 years old. The various activities include everything from luge to climbing walls. Then, of course, there’s the amazing scenery that will make the Ironman course so spectacular.

The race begins with a 2.4 mile swim in pristine Lake Tremblant. There’s an extremely wide start area, and, with almost 1.2 miles before the first turn, there will be lots of time for the field to spread out. The water temperature is expected to be about 71 degrees, so wetsuits will likely be allowed.

The bike course begins with relatively flat stretch of road, but quickly becomes a rolling endeavor through some picturesque forests. Much of the bike course will be along two lane highways that have a four-meter shoulder, similar to parts of the course at the Ironman World Championship in Kona. Athletes who check out the course before this fall will likely be in for a surprise next summer – the Quebec government has committed $6 million to paving the roads used for the bike course.

The day ends with a beautiful run that incorporates a trail along an old railway bed called Le P’tit Train du Nord, the longest linear park in Canada. The run course manages to include all kinds of breathtaking scenery – everything from waterfalls to rivers to the old village of Mont-Tremblant.

Ironman Mont-Tremblant promises to be an exciting new addition to the 2012 Ironman race calendar, which is why it comes as no surprise that it is filling fast. If you’re interested in signing up for the race, go to http://ironmanmonttremblant.com/registration/general-entry/

Ironman Mont Tremblant Course

14 May

Ironman Tremblant Lodging

Swim Course – (2.4 miles)

Athletes will start the 2.4-mile (3.8 km) swim on the golden sands of the Beach & Tennis club located next to the charming village of Tremblant Resort. The swim in Lake Tremblant gives athletes a clear view of the sheltering mountains and the estimated water temperature on race day is 71 F / 22 C. The swim finishes at Parc Plage, 300 meters from T1 near Quintessence Hotel, the region’s most luxurious property.

Bike Course – (112 miles)

The two-loop, 112-mile (180 km) bike course runs largely through Mont-Tremblant’s forests and mountains. The Montée Ryan is the most consistent portion of the course in terms of elevation change and is relatively flat. When athletes reach Route 117, they will face an elevation change that goes from 200 meters to 310 meters with a six percent grade. On the way back, athletes will again be on Montée Ryan and Chemin des Voyageurs, passing by the Tremblant Resort and heading towards the Municipality of Lac Supérieur with the most challenging elevation change of the course, 240 to 340 meters with a grade of 12 percent.

Run Course – (26.2 miles)

The two-loop, 26.2-mile (42.2 km) run course is known for its scenic beauty. As athletes exit the transition zone, they will run across the Ironman Village and into the heart of the pedestrian village of Tremblant Resort. Once on Chemin du Village, athletes will head towards Intrawest Club and run on the linear park bike path alongside the Diable River. Next, athletes will cross the picturesque Mont-Tremblant Old Village and continue on towards Chemin du Lac Mercier Road. This part of the course features many changes of elevation, from 215 to 260 meters, with grades ranging from eight to thirteen percent. Athletes will have the opportunity to run on the famous Le P’tit Train du Nord, a former railway bed that is now the longest linear park in Canada, and then return to the Mont-Tremblant Old Village, heading back towards Chemin du Village. The road will take runners past a waterfall, alongside beautiful Tremblant Lake and finally, back to the finish line in the Tremblant Resort.
