While athletes are going through their final race-week preparations, their families will find lots to do in Mont-Tremblant, too. The resort has planned on opening the “Kids Club” during the week of the race for children between 1 and 6 years old. The various activities include everything from luge to climbing walls. Then, of course, there’s the amazing scenery that will make the Ironman course so spectacular.

The race begins with a 2.4 mile swim in pristine Lake Tremblant. There’s an extremely wide start area, and, with almost 1.2 miles before the first turn, there will be lots of time for the field to spread out. The water temperature is expected to be about 71 degrees, so wetsuits will likely be allowed.

The bike course begins with relatively flat stretch of road, but quickly becomes a rolling endeavor through some picturesque forests. Much of the bike course will be along two lane highways that have a four-meter shoulder, similar to parts of the course at the Ironman World Championship in Kona. Athletes who check out the course before this fall will likely be in for a surprise next summer – the Quebec government has committed $6 million to paving the roads used for the bike course.

The day ends with a beautiful run that incorporates a trail along an old railway bed called Le P’tit Train du Nord, the longest linear park in Canada. The run course manages to include all kinds of breathtaking scenery – everything from waterfalls to rivers to the old village of Mont-Tremblant.

Swim Course – (2.4 miles)

Athletes will start the 2.4-mile (3.8 km) swim on the golden sands of the Beach & Tennis club located next to the charming village of Tremblant Resort. The swim in Lake Tremblant gives athletes a clear view of the sheltering mountains and the estimated water temperature on race day is 71 F / 22 C. The swim finishes at Parc Plage, 300 meters from T1 near Quintessence Hotel, the region’s most luxurious property.

Bike Course – (112 miles)

The two-loop, 112-mile (180 km) bike course runs largely through Mont-Tremblant’s forests and mountains. The Montée Ryan is the most consistent portion of the course in terms of elevation change and is relatively flat. When athletes reach Route 117, they will face an elevation change that goes from 200 meters to 310 meters with a six percent grade. On the way back, athletes will again be on Montée Ryan and Chemin des Voyageurs, passing by the Tremblant Resort and heading towards the Municipality of Lac Supérieur with the most challenging elevation change of the course, 240 to 340 meters with a grade of 12 percent.

Run Course – (26.2 miles)

The two-loop, 26.2-mile (42.2 km) run course is known for its scenic beauty. As athletes exit the transition zone, they will run across the Ironman Village and into the heart of the pedestrian village of Tremblant Resort. Once on Chemin du Village, athletes will head towards Intrawest Club and run on the linear park bike path alongside the Diable River. Next, athletes will cross the picturesque Mont-Tremblant Old Village and continue on towards Chemin du Lac Mercier Road. This part of the course features many changes of elevation, from 215 to 260 meters, with grades ranging from eight to thirteen percent. Athletes will have the opportunity to run on the famous Le P’tit Train du Nord, a former railway bed that is now the longest linear park in Canada, and then return to the Mont-Tremblant Old Village, heading back towards Chemin du Village. The road will take runners past a waterfall, alongside beautiful Tremblant Lake and finally, back to the finish line in the Tremblant Resort.

To groom out the additional snow, the resort has purchased a new powerful snowcat, the Prinoth Beast, the latest and biggest design in the industry. More horsepower and a wider tiller and blade allows the machine to groom more terrain more quickly each night.

The flaik system, a GPS device worn as an armband, is back this year at Tremblant Ski School. Not only does it locate users on the mountain but it also gives a review of the day with interesting statistics such as number of runs, number of lifts taken, average or maximum speed, distance traveled, and much more. The service is offered in the majority of kids program at the Ski School and rented to individuals or groups wishing to try the device.

New shops are well established in the pedestrian village in time for the winter season. A unique concept boutique for active women offering ski wear, casual wear, and accessories, joins another brand new shop, Adrenaline Junior, the first junior boardshop in Canada.
